While your most passionate sailors will tell you that the sailing season is 365 days long; the competitive calendar has just begun in Australia as men, women and children all board their (or their friends) yachts and enjoy the excitement of racing out on the water. While the responsibility of safety on the boat lies with the skipper, it is important to remember that everyone should be conscious of their own safety and life jackets should always be worn out on the water. Stormy Lifejackets Sailing range has a PFD suitable for everyone, regardless of size and sailing demands.
On Wednesday 17 October Stormy set sail from the Bellerive Yacht Club aboard Westerly for the second race in the summer twilight series, while the conditions were calm it was literally a sea of red as a majority of the boats had crews wearing their Stormy life jacket or life vests.
Stormy Lifejackets have developed a sailing specific range that combine our ISO accredited offshore PFDs, with a deck harness with D-ring and crotch straps. Ranging from 150 to 300 Newtons of buoyancy, Stormy has something for all levels of sailing. With both water activated and manual inflation, the Stormy Sailing range can be easily changed at any time to suit your boating conditions.
The Stormy Life Jacket with Harness is a waterproof and windproof jacket that inflates to 175+ Newtons of buoyancy. It features zip off sleeves, a hood rolled in the collar and storm flap for water protection. The internal harness fastens over the front of the zip for the D-ring to protrude through the storm flap to attach to a tether. This is well suited to recreational sailing for warmth and safety. This is also available as a Stormy Life Vest with Harness option.
The Life Vest Pro 180 and Life Vest Pro 300 are our ‘yoke’ style life vests that are designed to be worn over the top of your clothing and wet weather equipment. These premium level PFDs feature a water activated light and a spray hood that can keep the water off your face in high winds and waves once overboard. These are suited to warmer weather or the more serious offshore racers who wear heavy wet weather gear.
The Life Vest Classic with Harness is an entry level PFD with 165 Newtons of buoyancy. Also available is the Life Vest Junior that is suitable for children between 15-40kg.
